Web of Science ResearcherID (the Clarivate author profile) identifies researchers inside the WoS ecosystem. It aims to attach WoS-indexed publications to the correct person, reduce same-name collisions, and keep author-level citation indicators coherent. The UI may reflect Publons heritage or newer Clarivate branding; the job is stable: answer “who am I?” inside WoS.
Syncing with ORCID is recommended. ORCID is the universal identity umbrella; ResearcherID is the operational profile on the WoS graph. Linking them improves automatic matching of new WoS records. Without a link, one person’s papers can stay fragmented or merge with someone else—especially with common surnames.
Turkish juries may not demand a ResearcherID string, yet producing clean WoS citation reports from a tidy profile speeds dossier work. Fixing affiliation splits in the profile also improves university analytics. Fake citation or wrongful claiming attempts can be detected—keep the profile honest.
Practically: create or claim your profile via Clarivate/WoS, link ORCID, verify the publication list, and merge affiliations. Scopus Author ID is a separate system; aligning the trio (ORCID–ResearcherID–Scopus) yields the cleanest result. The Web of Science entry covers the index; ORCID covers the identity philosophy.
When you use Web of Science ResearcherID in a dossier or journal choice, state the year, official source, and category or collection name when relevant. Cross-reading related entries in this glossary prevents slogan-only explanations and produces verifiable wording that matches how committees and funders actually read evidence.
