Veterinary Faculty Students’ Career Perceptions Regarding The Human Pharmaceutical Industry

Objective: To evaluate veterinary students’ perceptions of careers in the human pharmaceutical industry and to examine factors influencing their career interests and preferred positions.Materials and Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional survey was conducted among 232 veterinary students. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing demographic characteristics, veterinary career plans (Vet_Career), knowledge and interest in the pharmaceutical industry (Pharma_Knowledge), and perceptions of preferred pharmaceutical positions (Pharma_Position). Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and correlation analyses were performed.Results: No significant differences were observed between male and female students across any of the subscales. Class level was significantly associated with all subscales (p < 0.001). Strong positive correlations were found among Vet_Career, Pharma_Position, and Pharma_Knowledge scores, while age showed only weak associations with career perceptions.Conclusion: Veterinary students’ perceptions of pharmaceutical careers are primarily influenced by educational progression and professional exposure rather than gender. Early career guidance, industry-focused training, and curriculum integration may enhance students’ preparedness for roles in the human pharmaceutical sector.Keywords: Career planning, pharmaceutical industry, Veterinary education, Veterinary students
