REFLECTIONS OF GOVERNMENT CHANGES ON CURRICULUM AND HISTORY EDUCATION (SAMPLE OF MEKTEB-I SULTANI) Abstract Legitimacy is the widest conceptualization for the reasons of a government. Educational institutions and history lessons, especially within the Modern Age, have been one of the most important tools for the governments to provide the legitimacy. In this context, the effect of governments on the curriculum is examined in this study through lessons, course hours and changes on history lesson contents in Mekteb-i Sultani, which was established in a period when different political conditions and actors were efficient. It is a fact that a specific political view couldn’t be dominant even in the same government period or that the governments had sharp changes on their political views because of internal and external conditions. Because there wasn’t a particular mindset about education in the periods of II. Abdulhamit and Party of Union and Progress, the need to revise the curriculum frequently occurred, and this need was formed by political views of the governments and conditions of the period. Keywords Legitimacy, History lesson, Education, II.Abdulhamit, Party of Union and Progress
