Abstract
English (OpenAlex)
There are many macroeconomic indicators in terms of determining and comparing the development levels of countries. However, it can be stated that the most inclusive of these indicators is the economic complexity index. From this perspective, the purpose of this study is to analyze the economic complexity indices of Turkey and China, which are among the pioneers of developing countries and have a high potential to climb to the top ranks at the global level with relatively high growth rates in projections for the coming years. In this context, firstly, the economic complexity indices of Turkey and China for the period 1993-2022 have been analyzed. In addition, the export competitiveness of these countries based on the 10 products with the highest product complexity index score in the world have been compared by calculating the Michaely Index. According to the analysis results, the level of complexity in China's exports is higher compared to Turkey. In other words, China's level of global competition is also higher compared to Turkey.
