Abstract

English (OpenAlex)

Some approaches on neoliberalism claims that conventional functions of state have been changed fundamentally as a result of the transformations in several areas such as the form of production, consumption patterns or the structure of employment. This point of view results in the devastating effects on political theory based on state and sovereignty because of the inadequacies of it to comprehend the order of oppression and power in neoliberalism. However is it really possible to understand the order of power in neoliberal era by leaving aside the state and law based analysis? This article points out the lack of historical and geopolitical dimension of Foucault’s paradigm of bio-power through the concepts of “world order” and “the nomos of the earth” in Schmitt’s works. Although it is a fact that the paradigm of sovereignty is an exposition of nation states era as the nomos of the earth, the article insists on the necessitates of complicity in between the profit of speculative capital and initiatives of sovereign power in neoliberalism. Consequently the article defends the idea is that the power in neoliberalism can be understand only preserving both the perspective of sovereign power and the perspective of bio-power that is to say the micro (Foucault) and macro (Schmitt) dimensions of neoliberal power.
