Share, Learn, Discover: Participant Experiences On the Contribution of Social Media to History Teaching

In recent years, the increasing integration of social media into educational contexts has raised important questions about its pedagogical potential and its impact on students’ perceptions and learning experiences. The study aims to reveal the views and experiences of participants regarding the topic after a homework activity assigned on social media. A case study design, one of the qualitative research designs, has been preferred in this research. The study, which involved 46 participants, collected participants’ views through a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers. The obtained data were analysed using content analysis. As a result, while some participants expressed their “cautious” and “negative” opinions about social media and history education before the assignment activity, there was a significant shift towards a “positive” stance in their opinions after the assignment activity. It was observed that participants highlighted positive opinions and experiences about this process. In addition, the study also focused on some sharing strategies of the participants related to the assignment and the ethical considerations they paid attention to in their posts.
