Evaluation of Water Sorption and Solubility of Cention N and Fluoride-Releasing Pediatric Restorative Materials

Background: This study aimed to investigate the water sorption and solubility of Cention N,-a new-generation restorative material, and 4 different fluoride-releasing pediatric restorative materials. In this study, Cention N (Ivoclar) and 4 different glass ionomers: high-viscosity (HV) (Equia Fil), HV glass hybrid (Equia Forte Fil), resin-modified glass ionomer (Riva Light Cure), and compomer (Dentsply Dyract XP) were used.Methods: Twelve standard cylindrical (6 × 2 mm) samples were prepared for each group. Two groups were formed for Cention N material, which the manufacturer reported releasing more minerals in an acidic environment. Five groups were placed in distilled water, and 1 group of Cention N was placed in an acidic medium. Water sorption and solubility of the samples were measured on the 7th, 14th, and 28th days. Statistical evaluation of the results was made using repeated measures variance analysis (ANOVA) and Tukey post-hoc test (P < .05)Results: Statistically significant differences in solubility and water sorption were observed across days and between groups (P < .05). Except for compomers and HV glass ionomer cement (HVGIC), all groups showed significant changes on days 7, 14, and 28. RMGIC showed the highest solubility, while Cention N had the lowest. HVGIC exhibited the highest water sorption. Nosignificant difference was found between Cention N in acidic and distilled water (P > .05).Conclusion: All materials absorb and dissolve in water. The acidic environment does not affect the solubility and water sorption of the Cention N material.
