The increasing number of international students intending to have a BA or MA degree from universities in Turkey has brought the need for teaching academic Turkish into prominence. As speaking skills are the most frequently used ones in learning environments, academic speaking skills should be specifically emphasized while teaching academic Turkish skills. The most common teaching material for improving learners' academic language skills is the coursebook. For this reason, coursebooks should be comprehensive enough to address learners' needs for academic language skills. To this end, the aim of the present study is to identify the speaking tasks and types of speaking used in the speaking activities of academic Turkish coursebooks for international learners, and to reveal the academic speaking competencies that the books intend to equip learners with. The study conducted for this purpose was designed as a qualitative case study. In total, 7 academic coursebooks have been analyzed. The document analysis revealed that the books mostly included explanation, discussion, and presentation tasks as well as that these are generally individual tasks. It was also found out that the competence that books focus mostly on is: "Learners can explain their ideas on an academic subject". It is thought that the results obtained from the study will contribute to the process of preparing textbooks and course materials in the academic teaching of Turkish as a foreign language.
