Abstract

Turkish

Nâbî's Hayrâbâd Masnavi as a Rewriting ExperienceHâyrâbâd, completed by Nâbî in 1705, was among the most admirable and effective works for a long time. Moreover, even at the end of the century, Şeyh Galib wrote Hüsn ü Aşk to break the general judgment that "no work can be written better than Hâyrâbâd".In the meantime, Gâlib directed sharp criticism to Nâbî and claimed that Hâyrâbâd was an unsuccessful transfer from Ali Budak Kün 1.1 Ağustos 2021 8 Attâr.Thus, Hâyrâbâd quickly fell into disfavor and could be included in the history of literature in the recent period only as a work that conduced toward Hüsn ü Aşk.This article aims at questioning Galib's role in literary criticism and tradition, and it endeavors to present an objective assessment of Hâyrâbâd.It first compares and contrasts Attar's İlâhinâme, Nâbî's inspiration, with Hâyrâbâd.It reveals the similarities and differences between the two texts in matters such as structure, characterization and plot elements. The findings are evaluated in terms of the theory of intertextuality.Consequently, it discusses Nâbî's originality and his contributions to the tradition of the classical literature. As a result, it demonstrates that Nâbi did not only write a voluminous masnavi with Hâyrâbâd but also, with a "rewriting" experience, showed practically how classical Turkish literature should be separated from abstract Persian literature.
