Literary works that relate to history, one way or the other, sometimes function as complementary in the readers" perception of historical events. As a reinterpretation of history by means of fiction, historical novel gives the reader an opportunity to go back to the past, evaluate the historical information from the novel by comparing it with the past historical events, and remodel the historical memory by bridging the gap between past and present. This study will highlight the characteristics of historical novels, their significance in conveying historical facts, and their educational aspect, on the basis of one of the historical novels, Fyodor Kubanski (Gorb)"s "The Homeland Eagles" ( , 1960). The work can also be read as a renewal of historical memory in terms of the restoration of the Battle of Sarikamish.
