Abstract

OpenAlex English

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between pregnant women's knowledge about nonpharmacologic methods used in the control of labor pain and their attitudes towards childbirth. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted between November 18, 2024 and January 30, 2025. The data were collected online through Google Forms by creating a “Personal Information Form” and “Birth Attitude Scale” after obtaining consent from pregnant women who received services from the pregnancy school of a hospital. The data of a total of 178 pregnant women who participated in the study were analyzed. Statistical significance level was taken as p<0.05. Results: The mean age of the pregnant women who participated in the study was 28.57±4.69 years and 52.8% had undergraduate or higher education. It was determined that 59.0% of the participants had knowledge about methods to reduce birth pain, 62.9% had knowledge about nonpharmacological methods and 81.5% believed that nonpharmacological methods were necessary in the control of birth pain. The birth attitude scale score of those who had information about nonpharmacologic methods in childbirth was 2.187±0.625 and 2.498±0.698 for those who did not have information and a significant difference was found between them (p=0.002). Conclusion: In the study, it was found that the birth attitude scores of those who had information about nonpharmacological methods in childbirth were lower than those who did not have information, and it is clear that pregnant women need more information about these methods.
