Performansın Deney Özyeterliğindeki Rolü: Nitel Bir Çalışma

It is an important requirement to examine how the performance affects experiment related self-efficacy, which is one of the self-efficacy resources in terms of promoting productivity and achievement in classes. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of prospective biology teachers' laboratory performances on developing their experimental selfefficacy.The study was designed as a single-state holistic case method, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The participants of this study were composed of twenty-six prospective teachers who are studying in the department of biology education in one of the state university and willing to participate in voluntarily. The data were collected via semi-structured interview form including personal information and two open-ended questions on whether they believed in their achievement in terms of carrying out an experiment and their reason of being successful on conducting experiment as a pre and post application. Content analysis technique was used to review and assess according to the ideas of prospective teachers. According to the results of this study, prospective teachers' experiment related self-efficacy level were (77%) higher than the before the performance level (53.8%). The opinions on the factors of experiment related self-efficacy changed before and after the performance. In addition, prospective teachers with different levels of self-efficacy thought that the power of experiment related self-efficacy was related to interest, effort, skill and concern. On the other hand, in different evaluations of the factors affecting the strength of the experimental self-efficacy of the pre-service teachers at high, medium and low self-efficacy levels, it has been determined that not only the initial self-efficacy level is important, but also the strength of the self-efficacy. Consequently, when all the results of the study are evaluated together, to improve the prospective teachers’ performance on experimental self-efficacy, it has seen that decreasing the emphasis on the skill and increasing the emphasis on the effort is important. In addition, it has also been shown that, it was beneficial in eliminating concern by increasing the interest during the experiments.
