Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) was born in the XVII century, in the Golden Age of the Netherlands, when he was the richest and most powerful. He is a painter of the Baroque period who lived in the XIX century."The Girl with the Pearl Earring" is a painting that is one of the masterpieces of the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. As the name implies, the focus of the table is a pearl earring. The painting is also called the "Mona Lisa of the North"or the "Dutch Mona Lisa".This painting by Vermeer has also inspired many works of art in the XVII century, from whom he was inspired by what was the power that made Vermeer draw this picture. It has been preserving its mystery since the XVII century. In her novel "The Girl with the Pearl Earring", which is also the subject of the review, the American writer Tracy Chevalier tries to answer all these questions. In his 1999 book of the same name, Chevalier tries to answer the question of who is the girl in Vermeer's painting, why the painter chose her as a model, why she wears such a large pearl earring, and ma ny more in creative novel fiction. The film Girl with a Pearl Earring shot in 2003 is also based on this book again. In this study, detailed information will be given about the translation of novels, which are one of the types of literary translation, and the book written by Chevalier will be examined in the context of human translation and machine translation.First, in order to explain the topic better, explanations will be made about literary translation, and machine translation. Then, the Turkish translation of the novel by Gökçen Reçber will be compared with Google and Yandex translation, the effect of human intervention in translation will be observed. When Machine Translation, application areas, current applications and the methods used were examined, it was seen that the most appropriate method for the study was Rule-Based Machine Translation. In translations made with a rule-based machine translation approach, both the word structures of the source and target languages give results that are directly proportional to each other, the grammar rules, and the word sequence. The aim in this study is to provide an examination of important, and trace artistic works from different angles, to present the need for human intervention with concrete indicators that machine translation can be performed in literary translation as well as in the genre of novel.
