Determination of Academicians’ Knowledge Levels Regarding Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Özet
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the level of knowledge of academicians about sexually transmitted diseases.Material and Methods: The cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted with 148 academicians working in a state university between March and June 2023. Data were collected with Google Forms; Descriptive İnformation Form and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Knowledge Level Measurement Form. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 25.0. As the data were not normally distributed, non-parametric tests were used. A p-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: Academics involved in the research 77% of them have never gotten training on sexual and reproductive health previously and 56.1% of the academicians who wish to acquire training on the topic prefer to do so via the website. 91.9% of participants said that it is the duty of both men and women to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases and 87.2% said that individuals who engage in several sexual relationships are more vulnerable. It was determined that the total score of the sexually transmitted diseases knowledge test was 76.08 ± 14.00, and the knowledge levels of academics working in health-related units and female academics were high.Conclusion: Academicians have a good level knowledge about sexually transmitted infections. Informing, counselling and raising awareness of individuals about sexually transmitted diseases are important in terms of prevention of transmission.
