Özet
This study investigates positive deviance and rate-busting in the experiences of imams (Muslim clergy). It explores how they navigate the societal expectations attached to their profession. Findings reveal that imams’ roles extend beyond official mosque duties, as they are also subject to idealized behavioral norms. Failure to meet such expectations often leads to negative judgments or feelings of disapproval. Conversely, fulfilling these ideals can generate positive recognition, yet may also attract criticism from certain groups. Thus, imams’ experiences are shaped not only by institutional responsibilities but also by complex, sometimes conflicting, social expectations.
