Abstract The wound healing is a complicate process in which oxidative events are intensively manifested. This study explores time-dependent effects of fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) application on oxidant and antioxidant parameters and closure rate during wound healing on days 3 and 7 in normo- and hyperglycemic rats. For this purpose, the rats were divided to normo- and hyperglycemic. Normo- and hyperglycemic rats are subdivided into control, negative control and FGF2-treated. Full-thickness wounds were made except control. FGF2 was administered in the FGF2-treated subgroups. After, rats were sacrificed on days 3 and 7, and oxidant and antioxidant parameters were determined. Thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARs) and ascorbic acid (AA) levels were decreased in FGF2-treated groups compared to negative control groups. In FGF2-treated groups, nitric oxide (NO) and glutathione (GSH) levels were elevated when compared with negative control groups. The FGF2 application can increase antioxidant capacity, and protect against oxidative stress during healing.
