Influence of different disinfection methods on bond strength of resin sealer

The purpose of the present in vitro study is to compare the effects of four different disinfection methods on the bond strength of a root canal sealer system to dentin walls. Forty extracted maxillary central incisors were used. The crowns were removed at the level of the cementoenamel junction. The working length of each root canal was established 1 mm short of the apical foramen. All teeth were instrumented using a set of rotary instruments (ProTaper, Dentsply). The teeth were divided into four groups: irrigated with NaCl as control; irrigated with NaCl+irradiated with Nd:YAG laser; irrigated with NaOCl+irradiated with Nd:YAG laser; and irrigated with NaOCl. The laser was operated at 1·5 W, 15 Hz, three times for 8 s with a 20 s interval. All teeth were filled using single cone gutta-percha and a resin sealer. After 1 week of water storage at 37°C, four sections (four coronal and four middle) of 1 mm thickness were prepared from each specimen. The test specimens were subjected to the push-out test method. Two-way ANOVA and Tukey honestly significant difference tests were used to evaluate the results. The push-out test values did not statistically vary according to root parts (p = 1); however, the differences were significant among the disinfection methods (p<0·001). Push-out bond strength values of root parts that were disinfected with NaOCl and irradiated with Nd:YAG laser were the highest. Nd:YAG lasing in association with NaOCl irrigation can be recommended as an effective combination to bond resin sealer to dentin.
