Optical communication system with single channel power delivery and data transmission for digital biomedical applications

In this paper, a communication system model in which optical power delivery and optical data transmission realized on a single channel is proposed. In the proposed system, optical power, data, and clock pulse signals are transmitted together on a single channel by applying Pulse Width Modulation on the light source. System model and the components are described in detail. The presented architecture enables single light sources and single fiber optical cable utilization, and hence, it can be integrated to compact, low-power, optical biomedical microsystems.
