Digitalisation in Industrial Design

Major transformation industrial design has undergone was not limited to tools but also brought about a shift in the design paradigm. This study brings wheelchairs into focus and investigates new perspectives introduced by digital technologies, utilising a literature review and case studies. A wheelchair is an exemplary product to represent universal design principles and allow full observation of concrete effects of digital transformation with its sensitivity towards individual needs. Study uses qualitative analysis techniques supported by the literature review and case studies. A comparative analysis was conducted using the criteria obtained from this literature review. With the help of this transformation, design processes have become a more innovative and holistic structure by integrating technology. In this context, the digitalisation process in industrial design does not only refer to a technical phase but also a social transformation representing barrier-free and universal design.
