Designing Green Digital Logistics for Post-Disaster Recovery Operations

This chapter examines the intersection of digitization and green logistics in post-disaster recovery operations, focusing on how emerging tools—such as digital health kits, blockchain systems, and solar-powered communications—can be designed and deployed with minimal ecological impact. Drawing on recent field cases from UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, the study highlights both the transformative potential and the unintended consequences of digital tools, including challenges in e-waste management, lifecycle tracking, and energy consumption. It explores circular logistics models, infrastructure barriers, and the role of digital sustainability assessment frameworks in guiding greener humanitarian innovation. This chapter contributes to advancing a new paradigm of eco-resilient digital logistics aligned with climate goals and social responsibility in humanitarian contexts.
