Farabi’nin Siyasal Felsefesinde Mutluluk ve “İlk Başkanlık” Arasındaki Zorunlu İlişki

Al-Farabi asserts that the aim of politics is happinessand good life. According to him, an individual who is unable to attain happinessalone needs the help of others in this regard. The need for people’s help forthe attainment of happiness, and the cooperation on that matter form the mainsource of competent socialization. It is not possible for a competentsocialization to occur in a smaller unit than a city. The city where peoplehelp each other to attain happiness is virtuous. As to the city’s virtuouspolitical organization, it is constituted based on cosmological principles.From this point of view, the virtuous political organization needs the firstruler who corresponds to 'the First Cause' in the universe and enables peopleto attain happiness. The present study examines the necessary relations betweenhappiness, which is the aim of the virtuous political organization in al-Farabi'spolitical philosophy, and the first ruler whom people need for the attainmentof happiness.
