Özet
Background Methamphetamine (MA) use is an increasing global public health problem. This study aimed to investigate the sociodemographic and clinical data of MA users admitted to an addiction center. Methods Between 2018 and 2023, 500 patients admitted to Akdeniz University Alcohol and Substance Use Research and Implementation Center for MA use were retrospectively evaluated. Results The mean age of the patients was 29.34 ± 7.53 years (min:18-max:56); 82.2% were male, and 48.2% were not employed. It was found that 12.8% (n = 64) of the patients had a psychotic symptom at presentation. Self-harm behavior was observed in 26.8% (n = 134) of the patients. Self-harm behavior (p < .05) and unemployment (p < .05) were observed more frequently in patients with psychotic symptoms compared to those without psychotic symptoms. According to logistic regression analysis, younger age, unemployment, and self-harming behavior were found to be associated with the presence of psychotic symptoms. Conclusion It can be said that patients using MA may have a high rate of psychotic symptoms, and psychotic symptoms may be associated with unemployment and self-harm.
