Despite their adverse effects and increasing prevalence, sleep problems have not yet been addressed in the work-leisure conflict literature. This paper focuses on how work-leisure conflict interferes with sleep. In particular, the current study investigates the associations between work-leisure conflict and cognitive pre-sleep arousal through emotional exhaustion and entrapment. Conservation of resources theory provides the theoretical grounding for this study. Data were obtained from 346 participants using an online survey method. The findings demonstrated that work-leisure conflict is positively associated with cognitive pre-sleep arousal, and this association is mediated serially by emotional exhaustion and entrapment. These findings contribute to the literature by providing insights into cognitive sleep problems from a leisure perspective.
