INVESTIGATION OF SURFACE SOIL NICKEL CONTENT: A CASE STUDY OF ADIYAMAN PROVINCE

Aim: In this study, it was aimed to identify regions where nickel accumulation is intense and to examine the seasonal change in nickel accumulation in surface soils in these regions. Scope: Within the scope of the study, the Small Industrial Zone - Adıyaman University - Atatürk Boulevard - around the old governor's square, around Adıyaman Organized Industrial Zone, around Adıyaman Cement Factory Area and the control zone Seyirtepe Recreation Area, where traffic can be heavy during the day, throughout Adıyaman city center in spring and summer. Samples were collected in autumn and winter. Method: Ninety-six samples were taken and sampling was planned to cover four seasons. Nickel measurements were recorded on the Perkin-Elmer brand NexION 350X model ICP-MS system. It was determined whether there were low or high changes between the maximum and minimum values of the readings; Evaluations were made according to the allowed Nickel levels according to Soil Pollution Control regulations. Results: Statistical differences were found between the groups in terms of nickel content averages. Conclusion: In locations where the change of nickel accumulation according to environmental conditions where human activities are intense is important and exceed the relevant criteria, the cultivation of forage crops should be expanded and the soil should be cleared of heavy metals. In locations that do not exceed this, it should be possible to plan the planting of forage crops at certain rates together with the human activities that are planned for the future in order to preserve the environmental conditions.
