Özet

Agricultural Faculties are part of educational institutions established to train Agricultural Engineers who will direct Turkey&s;s agricultural activities at a high level. The first agricultural education in Turkey started in 1846 at the “Ayamama Farm” in Istanbul-Yesilkoy, at the “Agriculture School”, which was established by order of the grand vizier of the time, “Buyuk Resit Pasha”. After the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, the biggest step in Turkish agriculture and agricultural education was taken with the establishment of the “Higher Institute of Agriculture (YZE)” in Ankara in 1933. However, the “Higher Institute of Agriculture” transformed into the “Faculty of Agriculture” in 1948 when Ankara University was established in 1946. So, there are 209 universities across Turkey in 2022, while there are 56 different Faculties of Agriculture. In these faculties, the education flows into particular agricultural science departments such as field crops, horticulture, soil science and plant nutrition, agricultural economics, agricultural machinery and technology engineering, animal husbandry and breeding, plant protection and irrigation and agricultural structures, and food and dairy technologies. This study presents the historical development, current situation, and future prospects of Agricultural Engineering Higher Education in Turkey.
