This study explores the dielectric properties and microwave potential of biomaterials obtained from the bone and beak of the cuttlefish Sepia officinalis, a cephalopod species abundant in the eastern Mediterranean waters of Turkey. Non-edible parts such as bones and beaks were collected, cleaned, dried, ground into powder, and characterized using a Keysight PNA-L Vector Network Analyzer with the open-ended coaxial probe method in the 1–20 GHz range. The real (ε′) and imaginary (ε″) components of complex permittivity were extracted to evaluate their suitability as microwave substrates. Results indicate that cuttlefish bone exhibits markedly higher dielectric constants (ε′) and dielectric loss (ε″) than beak due to its mineral-rich porous structure. Conversely, the beak, composed mainly of chitin, shows more stable and low loss behavior. These findings highlight that such marine biomaterials, obtained from biological waste, possess promising potential for microwave engineering, including radomes requiring controlled absorption and antenna laminates requiring low-loss stability. Their use can decrease reliance on synthetic substrates while supporting sustainability and introducing a new class of natural materials for high-frequency applications.
