EFFECT OF KETOPROFEN ADMINISTRATIONS AROUND MATERNAL RECOGNITION OF PREGNANCY ON PROGESTERONE and 12,13-dihydro-15-keto PGF2alpha LEVELS IN AKKARAMAN EWES

Ketoprofen is a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and acts as an analgesic and antipyretic drug. It is used for treatment of moderate pain and inflammation. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of ketoprofen administrations during maternal recognition of pregnancy (12-13 days post-mating) on progesterone and plasma metabolite of PGF2α, PGFM, (13,14-dihydro-15-keto-PGF2alpha) in Akkaraman ewes whose estrus were synchronized with intravaginal sponges, cloprostenol and PMSG. Mated sheep (n=42) were randomly divided into two groups as study (n=21) and control (n=21) groups. On the 12th and 13th days following mating, study group were injected with 3 mg/kg ketoprofen, while the control group were injected similar volume of saline. The progesterone and PGFM levels on the 12th and 15th days of the sheep in the study and control groups were compared between the groups, no statistical difference was found (p>0.05). There was a statistical difference between both progesterone and PGFM values of the sheep in the study group on the 12th and 15th days and only the PGFM values of the sheep in the control group (p<0.05). As a result, it can be concluded that effect of ketoprofen injections (3mg/kg im) at day 12 and 13 after mating on maintaining lower PGFM levels and higher progesterone levels were controversial. Despite the decrease in progesterone and PGFM levels, there was no positive effect on pregnancy rates.
