A supplementary description of Euseius talinga (Pritchard & Baker) (Acari: Phytoseiidae) from Egypt

Euseius talinga (Pritchard and Baker) (Acari: Phytoseiidae), a species previously misidentified as E. finlandicus (Oudemans) in Egypt, is reported for the first time for the Egyptian fauna. Its original description was not very detailed with simple drawings and an absence of diagnostic characters including measurements of dorsal setae. In addition, there is an inconsistency between its redescription and the original description, regarding the relative length of seta s4 in comparison with other dorsal setae, such as z4 and z2. Furthermore, we observed a modified seta (al subulate) on trochanter I of this species. We also examined the type materials of E. spermahyphus (Ueckermann and Loots) and concluded that this species is a junior synonym of E. talinga. Therefore, the important diagnostic characters of E. talinga are reviewed to facilitate species delimitation, and its supplementary description along with new illustrations are provided based on female specimens collected from Arundo donax L. (Poaceae) in Seidah village, Giza, Egypt.
