ABSTRACT The purpose of the study is to holistically identify the protective factors that contribute to students' academic resilience and examine the mediating role of protective factors between school burnout and school attachment using an exploratory sequential mixed‐methods design, one of the mixed‐methods research designs. A phenomenological research method was used to reveal the protective factors of students who were able to show academic resilience despite various negative life events. Results show that the factors contributing to academic resilience are categorized as the subthemes of individual, family, school and environmental resources. The mediating role of academic resilience resources in the relationship between school burnout and school attachment was examined using a structural equation model. The results show that resilience resources play a mediating role between school burnout and school attachment.
