AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of education and follow-up provided to relatives of palliative care patients receiving percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) feeding using the Pecha Kucha method on anxiety, knowledge and caregiving practices. DESIGN: A randomized controlled trial. METHODS: The study included 60 caregivers (intervention = 30; control = 30). The intervention group received PEG education using the Pecha Kucha method, while the control group received conventional oral education. The intervention was delivered twice weekly for four weeks. Outcomes were assessed using the PEG Knowledge Form, PEG Practice Form and Visual Analogue Scale for Anxiety (VAS-A). RESULTS: Post-intervention VAS-A scores were significantly lower in the intervention group compared to the control group (3.20 ± 0.99 vs. 5.50 ± 1.19, p < 0.001). PEG knowledge scores were significantly higher in the intervention group (19.63 ± 2.17 vs. 9.33 ± 5.06, p < 0.001). Similarly, PEG practice scores were significantly improved in the intervention group (12.03 ± 1.32 vs. 9.13 ± 4.24, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that Pecha Kucha-based education may improve caregivers' knowledge and practices and reduce anxiety levels in relatives of palliative care patients receiving PEG feeding. However, findings should be interpreted cautiously due to the single-centre design and limited sample size. TRIAL REGISTRATION: The study was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT06339723.
