The application of two different processes simultaneously in a single reactor for the removal of persistent compounds from wastewater provides low investment cost, low treatment time, and synergistic pollutant removal. In this study, Magnetite-Powder Activated Carbon (M-AC) and Calcium Peroxide (CaO2) were used simultaneously in an adsorption/oxidation hybrid process to remove Reactive Blue 21 (RB21) from simulated textile wastewater. M-AC can be separated for regeneration from the hybrid system by applying a magnetic field. CaO2 is an eco-friendly, strong oxidant that can be used without any activator. Different amounts of M-AC and CaO2 were used simultaneously in the hybrid process. The RB21 removal efficiency within 45 min was calculated as 99.44% with the simultaneous use of 0.04 g M-AC and 0.2 g CaO2. It was found that the M-AC/CaO2 hybrid system is an effective process to remove color from textile wastewater.
