Johann Joachim Winckelmann’ın Antik Yunan Sanatına Bakışı Üzerine Bir Değerlendirme

Known for his studies on art history and archaeology, Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717-1768) was a thinker who developed himself in many fields.His understanding of art enabled the examination of the inner logic of human culture and its foundation.Winckelmann managed to influence many thinkers with his works and ideas during his lifetime.When he started living in Dresden and worked as a librarian, he had the opportunity to conduct in-depth research on Ancient Greek culture.As a result of his interest in Ancient Greek culture and art, he made a chronological classification between the original structures of this period and the copies of the Roman period and for the first time observed the distinction between these periods.In a sense, he was the first person to draw attention to antiquity.He was a library director and also served as a curator in museums.He attached great importance to culture and did not see it as something separate from art.This article is based on Winckelmann's (1717-1768) thoughts on art, ideal beauty and true simplicity.Thanks to Winckelmann's studies, it has been revealed that the ancient Roman culture that created Western culture is based on Ancient Greece.In the first part of the research, Winckelmann's life and his perspective on art in line with his studies are included.Then, the philosophical foundations on which this perspective is based and the way he approaches art are mentioned.Winckelmann's approach to the concept of Mimessis is examined.The views of thinkers who support deep-rooted research in the fields of art history and archaeology are tried to be reflected.The work "Laocoon Sculpture Group", which has an important place in Greek art, is examined from Wickelmann's perspective.The reason for addressing the subject of "An Assessment of Johann Joachim Winckelmann's View of Ancient Greek Art" is that Winckelmann has an important place in the formation of the historical foundations of art history and archaeology.In this study, readings were made from articles, theses and internet sources.National and international resources related to the subject were examined and relevant visual and literary data were scanned.When the studies were examined as a result of the literature review, this subject was discussed because Winckelmann's life, his views on art and his importance in art history were not widely included in the literature.
