Intraosseous lesions of the Jaws: A Retrospective Review of Clinical Cases

Background. The aim of this study is to examine the distribution of 338 intraosseous lesions that have been surgically treated and histopathologically examined and to compare the findings with the literature. Methods. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 338 pathologies that were surgically treated and histopathologically examined over an 18-month period in the second half of 2022 and through 2023. The data obtained were evaluated in terms of age, gender, histopathological diagnosis, and localization. Results. Out of the 338 lesions, 262 (77,5%) were odontogenic cysts. 4 pathologies (1,18%) were malignant. The most common age group was 36-60 years, comprising 149 patients (44,1%), followed by the 19-35 age group with 119 patients (35,2%). Of the patients, 197 (58,3%) were male and 141 (41,7%) were female. The most common lesion was the radicular cyst, with 129 lesions (38,2%), followed by the dentigerous cyst with 80 lesions (23,7%), and the odontogenic keratocyst with 45 lesions (13,3%). Out of the lesions, 221 (65,38%) were observed in the mandible, 112 (33,14%) in the maxilla, and 5 (1,48%) in both jaws. Conclus3ons. Intrabony lesions observed in the jaw region have various etiologies and require careful clinical and radiological evaluation for accurate diagnosis and management. The study aims to shed light on the diagnostic processes of experts in dentistry and maxillofacial surgery and to assist in clinical approaches.
