Airport runway pavements are subjected to severe mechanical stresses and surface abrasion from repeated aircraft landings and take-offs, which accelerate deterioration, shorten service life, and increase maintenance costs. Conventional concrete, while widely used, is limited by brittleness, low tensile capacity, and vulnerability to wear. This study investigates the incorporation of polypropylene fibers into runway concrete mixtures and evaluates their effects on compressive, flexural, and abrasion performance. Five mixtures were prepared, including plain concrete and concretes reinforced with 1% and 2% dosages of two commercial fibers (Proofiber Macro Twist and Sika PPM-12). Results showed that 2% Sika PPM-12 achieved the best balance, improving abrasion resistance by 36.77% and flexural strength by 30.77%, with only a 12.76% reduction in compressive strength. Microstructural analyses confirmed fewer pores and more homogeneous structures. These findings suggest fiber reinforcement enhances runway durability, safety, and sustainability.
