SAĞALTIMDA ÇOĞULCULUĞUN ROY PORTER’IN ÜÇ TÜR OTORİTESİ BAĞLAMINDA İNCELENMESİ

This paper will start with the literature on the emergence of traditional, complementary, and alternative medicine (TCAM). Then the epistemological value of medical knowledge will be evaluated logically and ethically with a folkloric perspective. The main aim will be questioning the possible cooperation of TCAM practices with modern medicine the difference of which emerged due to the change in the medical paradigm. For this purpose, understandings of traditional medicine and modern medicine will be clarified. Thus the reasons behind their epistemic value or popularity will be revealed. This clarification will be based on Roy Porter’s conception of three types of authority. The foundations of these different ecoles in healing will be based on this conceptualisation. Different types of healing ecoles will intersect inevitably and the cooperation between these ecoles has undeniable benefits in individual and societal level. Logical plausibility and ethical permissibility of these three types of authority are different. Thus, a different type of perspective and seeking cooperation without letting abuse will be possible which are hoped to be replaced with current professional reflexes against traditional practices. In conclusion, issues related to method and placebo can be considered for further studies.
