Determinants of the Claim Performance of Construction Companies in International Projects

Numerous studies have examined the determinants of firm performance in the construction sector, but few have looked at the relationships between claim performance and other variables. The current study seeks to investigate the factors influencing claim performance of Turkish contractors working on international projects. Data was collected by using a questionnaire to measure the claim performance and management skills of contractor firms. The dependent variable for the study was claim performance, which was assessed by employing both objective and subjective measures. The five subdimensions that comprised the independent variable, management skills, were contract management skills, communication management skills, documentation management skills, procurement management skills and scheduling management skills. The findings of the study indicate strong correlations between the subdimensions of management skills and claim performance. Results show that key elements influencing claim performance include the employment of competent claim staff, exchanging documentation studies, proactive approach and effective communication of the claim manager and fostering interdepartmental cooperation. Construction companies may track and manage claims with the help of these metrics, leading to more effective claim processing.
