The Effect of Music on Peripheral Intravenous Catheter Placement Skills, Anxiety, Self-confidence Perception, and Vital Signs in Nursing Students: Randomized Controlled Trial

Objective:This study sought to examine the impact of music on nursing students’ skills, anxiety levels, perceptions of self-confidence, and vital signs. Method:This is a randomized, controlled experimental study. It was conducted with 60 nursing students enrolled at a state university. Students in the intervention group (n=30) listened to music during the skill training. Students in the control group (n=30) received standard skill training. Results:There was no significant difference between the groups in the ability to place peripheral intravenous catheters. It was observed that, in the group that listened to music, anxiety scores decreased, self-confidence scores increased, respiratory rate decreased, and blood pressure increased. Conclusion:Music listened to by students while practicing peripheral intravenous catheter placement had no effect on skill acquisition, anxiety, self-confidence, respiratory rate, or systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
