OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted in order to evaluate admission about socio-demographic, diagnostic codes and triage between 01.11.2012-31.10.2013 to Balikesir State Hospital emergency department. METHODS: The study is a retrospective and descriptive research. Data were obtained from hospital information systems. Chi-square test, averages and percentages was used in statistical comparisons. RESULTS: 12.59% of all applications to Balıkesir State Hospital made have been to the emergency department. 44.02% of applications are consisting of repeated; 37.89% of applications in the range of 20-39 age individuals. It is seen that lots of applications about Ear, Nose, Throat and eye diseases in winter, urogenital system in summer (p<0.0001). Applications about Ear, Nose, Throat and eye diseases, cardiovascular system diseases, neurovascular system diseases are more significant on men, applications about fall and trauma, stomachache and side pain, respiratory and digestion system diseases diagnosis are more significant on women (p<0.0001). CONCLUSION: In the result of the study, İt is seen that emergency department is used inappropriate. This condition maybe associated that patients want to get faster service and don’t want to wait. Strengthening primary health care services and implementation of the referral system are appropriate in order to maintain emergency services safely.
