Nonsurgical Single-Visit Endodontic Treatment Approach to Periapical Lesions: Case Series

This article presents the healing process of four cases with periapical lesions following endodontic treatment without surgical intervention, accompanied by radiographic evaluations. In the first case, a 29-year-old female patient presented with intense percussion sensitivity and a periapical lesion in the left upper second premolar tooth. The second case involved a 45-year-old female patient with an extensive periapical lesion originating from the left lower premolar tooth beneath a bridge. The third case concerned a 17-year-old female patient with a fluctuant acute apical lesion associated with the left upper lateral incisor tooth. In the fourth case, a 16-year-old male patient exhibited a fluctuant abscess and a large lesion visible on radiography, originating from the right lower first molar tooth. Following root canal instrumentation, the canals were sequentially irrigated with 2.5 milliliters (ml) of 2.5% NaOCl (Imıcryl) and 2.5 ml of 17% EDTA (Imıcryl), followed by sonic activation (EndoActivator). The root canals were obturated with AH Plus (Dentsply Sirona) and gutta-percha (Cerkamed). Clinical and radiographic examination after 6 months of follow-up revealed improvement. Following successful single-session endodontic treatment performed without surgical intervention, periapical lesions may heal, and teeth can function asymptomatically in the oral cavity.
