Analysis of the Challenges in the Sustainable Hazelnut Supply Chain in Türkiye: A FUCOM-Based Approach

Although Türkiye is a leader in global hazelnut production and exports, the functioning of a sustainable hazelnut supply chain faces many economic, social, environmental, and structural challenges. The aim of this study is to systematically analyze the sustainable hazelnut supply chain challenges in Türkiye and determine their importance levels. In the study, firstly, the relevant literature was reviewed, and the prominent challenges were identified through expert opinions. Then, the importance weights of the identified challenges were calculated using the Full Consistency Method (FUCOM), one of the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. The results indicated that the top three most significant challenges are: “High labor and orchard maintenance costs,” “Yield fluctuations due to climate change,” and “Overuse of pesticides leading to soil and water pollution.” The findings are expected to contribute to policymakers and sectoral stakeholders in identifying priority intervention areas.
