Bibliometric Evaluation of the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery Based on Journal Citation Reports 2025 Data

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric evaluation of the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery based on the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) 2025 data, and to assess its current standing and performance trends within the "Surgery" category. METHODS: The analysis was carried out using bibliometric indicators published by Clarivate Analytics in JCR 2025. Key metrics such as the 2024 impact factor, total citations, open access ratio, and citable item percentage were extracted and compared with the journal's data from previous years to evaluate longitudinal changes. RESULTS: In 2024, the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery had an Impact Factor of 1.0 and an Impact Factor excluding self-citations of 0.9. It ranked 221st out of 312 journals in the "Surgery" category, positioning it in the third quartile (Q3). The journal achieved a record-high total citation count of 12,617. The proportion of open-access articles was relatively low at 6.64%, whereas the percentage of citable items was remarkably high at 99.76%. CONCLUSIONS: Although currently in the third quartile, the journal shows a positive trend in its impact factor ranking over recent years. Increasing open-access publications and promoting editorials and letters could enhance its citation potential and bibliometric visibility. These strategies may support the journal's academic growth and elevate its position within international surgical literature.
