Özet

İngilizce (OpenAlex)

This study examined the environmental impacts of emissions from road transportation in the city center of Bandırma and the role of green infrastructure in reducing these impacts. It was determined that the increasing population and number of vehicles increased traffic density and negatively affected air quality. Green tissue deficiencies in the current transportation infrastructure were identified through the analysis of local emission sources and suggestions were presented to eliminate these deficiencies. It was emphasized that roadside afforestation and green barrier applications, especially in heavy traffic areas, were effective in reducing air pollution. It was shown that harmful emissions such as particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) and carbon monoxide (CO) could be captured and air quality could be improved with plant arrangements. In the study, approximate pollution calculations for Bandırma were made with EPA data and the effectiveness of green infrastructure applications was supported. Multi-criteria decision-making methods TOPSIS and EDAS were used for the selection of plant species; plants and their criteria were evaluated with expert opinions. The results show that green infrastructure is critical for controlling traffic-related emissions in Bandırma and that these applications can be a model for other cities. It is recommended that local governments adopt correct plant selection and planting strategies. The study aims to contribute to sustainable city planning.
