This study aims to examine the spiritual transformation and existential search for meaning experienced by an individual through their connection with nature, based on the documentary My Octopus Teacher (2020). The focus of the research is to reveal how the process of reconnecting with oneself and nature is represented on the cinematic plane through the relationship developed by the documentary's protagonist, Craig Foster, with an octopus. Qualitative content analysis was applied in the study; the analyses were conducted within the framework of existential philosophy, ecopsychology, and deep ecology approaches. The documentary selected as the sample presents a multi-layered narrative that invites us to reconsider both a personal healing process and the relationship between nature and humans through real images and subjective narratives. The findings of the analysis reveal that My Octopus Teacher makes visible the physical and psychological pain associated with the individual's separation from nature and shows that this pain can be transformed through the bond established with nature. Furthermore, the documentary directs the viewer to reevaluate the relationship between nature and humans not only within an ecological framework but also within an existential and spiritual context. Ultimately, My Octopus Teacher makes the effects of the relationship with nature on individual spiritual transformation and the search for existential meaning visible in a cinematic way, offering a unique and valuable contribution to the field of documentary cinema.
