Özet

OpenAlex İngilizce

The aim of this case report is to introduce with dental symptoms that may occur in connection with treatment of Wilms'Tumor(WT). Wilms'Tumor is the sixth pediatric cancer, is diagnosed in the first 5 years of life. Treatment of WT is based on chemotherapy, surgery, or both .Although WT has no direct dental-maxillofacial effects; treatment process of WT may cause dental effects. The consequence of treatment can be salivary-gingival changes, oral infections, orodental developmental changes. When an 11-year-old patient diagnosed with WT applied to our clinic. It was learned that she underwent chemotherapy/radiotherapy and surgery at the age of 3 and her follow-up continues. There is keratinized gingival tissue covering periphery of the teeth, gingival overgrowth. Root-crowns of 2nd premolars-molars are micro-formed. Root resorption and mobility that may occur due to root stunting during orthodontic treatment should be monitored regularly with radiographs and orthodontic force should be adjusted accordingly. Changes in gingival and intraoral microbial flora due to excessive plaque accumulation should be kept under control during treatment. Keratinised gingival tissues are important for bracket positioning before/during treatment. Brackets suitable for mini-shaped teeth should be selected. A successful orthodontic treatment can be achieved with good oral hygiene, appropriate bracket-force selection and routine controls. The symptoms found in our patient are consistent with those reported in the literature. Since the effects are directly related to the treatment process and time ,individualized treatment goals should be determined and routine controls with the orthodontist, dentist should be provided from an early age. The quality of life of patients undergoing cancer treatment can be improved through lifelong multidisciplinary teamwork, both dentally and medically, starting from diagnosis.
